about

While living in Alsace, France, at the house of harpists Cynthia and Rudiger Oppermann (see Klangwelten collection on this site) I met Michael Konrad, the husband of the lead clarinetist in the Baden-Baden symphony in which Cynthia played pedal harp. Inspired by some other examples of the rare bass and voice duo, he approached me about doing a "covers" project combining standards with new pop songs given the "jazz treatment". This idea stayed with me after I moved to New Orleans, leading me to form my current project "The Happybirds of Blueness" based on the core duo of me on vocals and Spike Perkins on bass - soon to be added to this site, (currently demos may be heard on Soundcloud).
