I collaborated with the multi-talented Frank Garvey on and off for two decades, always hoping he would someday emerge from the slums of San Francisco and onto the world stage. He’s a complex character. We shall see.....

But all in all, there were times when indeed true magic was created in that unlikeliest of environments: his grimy black box studio on a piss-soaked corner of the only un-gentrifiable neighborhood in San Francisco. The smell of sour alcohol-laced vomit and rancid urine will forever be associated with these recordings, in my memory, hence the title I've chosen for this collection: diamonds in the garbage.

After being discovered by Bobby McFerrin as a young vocal improviser in San Francisco, I spent some years writing and performing with ensembles that remain important in the history of Bay Area arts, then did time tangling with the music biz in LA & NYC, followed by a decade in Europe, recording all the while, before coming "home" to NOLA.
