Daydrinkin' 04:52
Daydrinkin' I've been told it's wise to wait til dusk To put a cold cocktail to one's lip Yeah I been sold a lotta lies my love Been given many a poison cup to sip Now I feel old - it's like you wore me out! I once was bold - you tore my soul with doubt So now I know it's better not to wait It's good to get a start on feelin' great Before it gets too late So I"m Daydrinkin' And thinkin' about you Daydrinkin' A glass in my hand I start with white wine in the morning By noon I'm takin' shots with the band When I switch to hard liquor I like that Juniper Gin By night time I've nearly forgotten The thrill of the smell of your voice And the sound of your....skin So I knock myself out another evening Oblivion's better than pain But when the sun hits my eyes It's the darkest surprise To find you runnin' 'round my mind again So I start Daydrinkin' Some rum in my coffee Daydrinkin' Sippin' beer from the can I take a cab down to Decatur Where the bartenders all understand about dat Daydrinkin' I give out my number Daydrunk To any ole man Night time I get a strange message From some guy who says he wants one final goodbye Before he boards his flight...... to Japan So I knock myself out another evening Oblivion's better than pain But when the sun hits my eyes It's the darkest surprise To find you runnin' 'round my mind again So I knock myself out another evening Oblivion's better than pain But when the sun hits my eyes It's the darkest surprise To find you runnin' 'round my mind again So I start daydrinkin' to stop thinkin' about you Daydrinkin' 'til I run out of ice Knock on the door of a neighbour To see if he's got "Something Cool" Maybe lend me some sugar Or maybe some spice Daydrinkin' To stop think about you Daydrinkin' 'Til I'm daydrunk enough to run you 'Til I'm daydrunk enough to spin you 'Til I'm daydrunk enough to run you Right out of my brain

Louisiana Mail Waiting for a letter Louisiana Mail To make me feel better You know that I miss you a lot Stick it in my slot, stick it in my slot stick it in my slot Louisiana Mail Slower than a snail Peel a stamp and lick it I'll tell you where to stick it You know that I love you a lot Stick it in my slot, stick it in my slot stick it in my slot Louisiana Male Ya aint no transgender Sometimes wish that you was a gender bender But you never put on a frock Baby you a real male man So deliver! Stick it in my slot, stick it in my slot stick it in my slot Pinin', hopin' Crazy thoughts like termites swarming Sinkin' underwater While the skies above are storming Huntin' Fishin' Hide as thick as alligator Never call me back I should decline to see you later Louisiana Male Lousiana male Are you just a faker? I been such a giver And you been such a taker This is some fine kinda mess Guess I'm gonna change my address So you can never Stick it in my slot, stick it in my slot stick it in my slot Stick it in my slot, stick it in my slot stick it in my slot Stick it in my slot, stick it in my slot Stick it in my slot

I thought our love Was all wrapped up Tied with a bow Sealed in a box But when I dared To really look inside There was nothing there Just empty and bare All the shiny paper In the world Couldn’t cover up The truth about our love That you were being warmed By other fires That I was sitting ‘neath A different tree The game of let’s pretend Didn’t end with Santa Claus So this Christmas Let’s just set each other free That’s the best gift You could ever give to me You have been so good And so have I At decorating And dressing up At hanging pretty tinsel on a lie But this Christmas Eve Let’s skip the make believe They say each snowy crystal is unique No two alike One of a kind So when you find the one You’re meant to catch It’s clearer than the brightest Winter sky It’s only right you know To let the wrong one go So this Christmas Let’s let go of you and I That’s the best gift No need to even cry

about

Spike and Dianimal is at its core a vocal-driven bass and voice duo, the idea for which was given to Diana Rosalind by German bassist Michael Konrad, with whom she collaborated for the year and a half prior to her move to New Orleans from France. The flexibility of the form allows for endless possibilities of additional instrumentation to be added to particular songs, while also featuring stripped-down arrangements.

Their current repertoire features a carefully chosen mixture of local repertoire, surprising covers, and originals by either/both writers, that fit within the blues/jazz/soul and pop traditions while slightly subverting them. Diana also sings in French and Portuguese and has created new English translations of standards including Corcovado and La Vie en Rose plus contemporary French pop songs (e.g. Sandcrine Kilberlain), and created French lyrics for NOLA classic House of the Rising Sun and better English lyrics for standards such as La Vie En Rose.

Spike Perkins has three decades experience playing both electric and upright bass professionally, in New Orleans. Perkins and Trimble's combined focus is on great songwriting because “the song is the thing”, as Spike and Dianimal’s motto goes.

The forthcoming album of that title (The Song is The Thing) is being built right here on Bandcamp, with all demo and rehearsal versions migrating over to Soundcloud so that only mixed and mastered originals are available here.

about

Diana Rosalind New Orleans, Louisiana

After being discovered by Bobby McFerrin as a young vocal improviser in San Francisco, I spent some years writing and performing with ensembles that remain important in the history of Bay Area arts, then did time tangling with the music biz in LA & NYC, followed by a decade in Europe, recording all the while, before coming "home" to NOLA. This is a partial musical record of that journey. ... more
