This collection features three different treatments of a song idea. This is the first one, the Aether original, which showcases the song after it had progressed from an a capella tone poem into a harmonized duo for harp and voice after which our producers created a bed of electronic beats and sounds that we then played to in the studio recording. Be is very simple and has a chant-like, almost monotonous verse, but I have always loved singing it due to the contrast between restraint in the verse and the greater emotional expression inherent in the repetition of the word "be". The Klangwelten version of this song allowed me the chance to really explore the freestyling potential of this refrain.

The very first idea for this song, melody and lyric, came to me when standing on the black sands beach just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco, with my dear friend and sometimes-more-than-that, Raymond Vigil, whom I'd met and pretty much fallen for at first sight when we were both about 19 years old. He had such a great sense of adventure and boundless curiosity and appetite for life, a wicked sense of humour and very original way with words.

How tragically ironic then that he should end his own life while just in his mid-30s.

The Klangwelten performances of this song took place just a few months later and I dedicated them all to Raymond and had his dates of life and the dedication printed in the concert programs.
