about

I've been thrilled to work, in 2011, with a hero of my youth: Youth! His band, Killing Joke was one of my 3 favorite bands as a teenager, the other two being Bow Wow Wow and PiL. He's also done amazing work with the Orb and Paul McCartney as The Fireman (and if you don't think you dig McCartney well check out StrawberriesOceansShipsForests one of his instrumental collabs with Youth - it's incredibly good and he is definitely alright!) Youth is now really a friend too and has a very talented songwriter daughter of about 14 that I've been coaching in London. It will be interesting to see what she does.

These lyrics just kind of came out, the original instrumental was already called Fast Forward and I just went with it.

I was worried my Mum wouldn't like the advice I put in her mouth but she just gave a dirty chuckle. That's one of the things I love about her and this song is for her but it's also just about how the things we're taught as little kids have a lot of relevance later in life. Too bad we still have to go through all the pain and mistakes to find out how much wisdom was contained in those nursery rhymes.

lyrics

my mamma told me
there'd be people just like you
my mamma tried to teach me
what good humans do

she said

"never tell a lie -
not if you think you'll get found out -
but always do back down
unless you're right without a doubt.
though you must try to tell the truth
always try to quell its hurt
and you must always wash your hands and face
when you been playin' in the dirt..."

fast forward
fast forward

about

Diana Rosalind New Orleans, Louisiana

After being discovered by Bobby McFerrin as a young vocal improviser in San Francisco, I spent some years writing and performing with ensembles that remain important in the history of Bay Area arts, then did time tangling with the music biz in LA & NYC, followed by a decade in Europe, recording all the while, before coming "home" to NOLA. This is a partial musical record of that journey. ... more
