This song was written and recorded by a very ahead-of-their-time 80s British group, headed by a very interesting female singer, Carmel, which was also the name of the band. Their retro-ish sound would be at home in a David Lynch film. Alas, they were a bit out of step with the times and so despite acclaim and some success, they were never a huge act. I understand they have recently reformed around a duo of the two main original collaborators, so hopefully they'll be performing again.
