about

One of my first recordings, if not THE first, with Frank Garvey, this track is from about 1989 and part of a long form "oratorio" entitled Seasons of the Veil: based on fragments of text from the Roman classical author Petronius.

I include it mainly for the purposes of historical context and comparison with later DeusMachina works. To be honest, and I always was with Frank, I didn't care much for this song or others from the early period as I found them to be somwhat contrived and self-consciously reaching for artistic legitimacy. Frank is an unashamed Mike Oldfield fan and you can definitely hear the debt to pomp-rock in all the works from Seasons of the Veil! I had the least creative input into these pieces and closely followed the compositions; in fact, if memory serves me correctly, these parts may have even been written down in music notation.

This is a partial musical record of that journey. ... more
