about

These songs were all recorded on a Fostex 8 track reel to reel, which at the time was a major piece of kit to own! I recall this as a happy time, living at the Office, a loft on the top floor of a largely unoccupied office building in pre-dot com downtown San Francisco. The place was absolutely enormous, at least 6,000 square feet and we paid practically nothing for it, $600 a month. That is because the owners had absolutely no idea that some of us were living there and that we were renting out cubicles to a large number of artists on the side! We had told them that we just needed rehearsal space for our opera company and would only be using one small area of it. Hahaha!

The lyrics were based on a very realistic and intense dream of a post-apocalyptic future that I had. I remember Josh making fun of me for the use of the plural "lovers" in the lyrics. I was always trying to have an open relationship with him - until he started to get serious with someone else that is! Woops, tables turned! But that's another story...

lyrics

Perpetual
Oh perpetual
Oh the struggle is
Perpetual

I dreamt there was a world
Where nothing left was living
The searing wind was the only thing left moving
Across the earth that once was so home
To so many beautiful varied life forms

Someone wake me
This must not be real

Then the picture changed
And we were all together
My friends my lovers
My mother and my father
It all seemed so simple

about

Diana Rosalind New Orleans, Louisiana

After being discovered by Bobby McFerrin as a young vocal improviser in San Francisco, I spent some years writing and performing with ensembles that remain important in the history of Bay Area arts, then did time tangling with the music biz in LA & NYC, followed by a decade in Europe, recording all the while, before coming "home" to NOLA. This is a partial musical record of that journey. ... more
