about

The style of this poem was influenced and inspired by the ecstatic poetry of Rumi and Hafez - whom I was reading at the time. We did not do an arrangement of this song before recording but recorded pieces of it - the cycling harp, certain sung phrases over and over - and then literally, old skool style, took the scissors to the tape! So the end result was a genuine cut up. Barbara and I did have a live version that we performed but we would have to invent something all over again to do it now - and I hope we do because I really love this dreamy piece and that harp-waterfall is just lush.

lyrics

The Beloved is a face
The shape of which held in memory
Can never be distorted
The Beloved is a much read book
In the turning of whose pages a new discovery
Is always made
The Beloved is a banquet
To which hunger has brought us
That we may serve as well as feast
The Beloved is a music
Which intoxicates but does not terrify
In which all moments
Are lost
Except for
This One

This is a partial musical record of that journey. ... more
