about

I really am not sure what I was on about when I wrote these words. Something maybe to do with how a Turnstone is a bird but a stone is heavy and stands, and can't fly, whereas we talk of turning stones over and witches are always turning people into stones. We build churches out of stones and it makes people's views hard, like stones. But at the top of churches are bells and the birds, the Turnstones, sit up top the belltower. Down below the gravestones cover the bones and the bells chime for church just like how people used to gather at the old stones where people used to be sacrificed. Who knows! I think I wrote weirder more surreal stuff during my strictly sober years than at any other time!

But that was the funny thing about Lil Tiger; 3 out of 4 were big ex-users. Nothing was written under the influence. But it's very stoned-sounding music and sounds good when stoned.

This was one of the 3 original songs on the first demo and has the most abstract arrangement of any. It was interesting recording something that sounded like one long amorphous piece without any discernible verse or chorus, when in fact it had definite sections and was repeatable. For me, it was more like reciting a poem that delivering a song.

lyrics

Your light - a path i swallow
til the green is born and Murder walks
it turned and in a shallow fit
the pretty herd all crowded in

i turn a mile
i falter i falter
throw me a hurdle
the stones are turning...

Wonder over-spun and wrenched a knee
stone out of place
that final chair forlorn and woe-begotten
stand me in a hallowed corner
right my wrong and beg the throng

to ring the chime
stand me some time
before it turns
sell me a rhyme
feed me a line
stand me some time

throw the game
throw the game
throw the game

rattle my bones
don't leave me alone
un-turn my stone

stand me some time
climb the steeple
save me from the funny people

my stone
standing stone
turning to stone

about

Diana Rosalind New Orleans, Louisiana

After being discovered by Bobby McFerrin as a young vocal improviser in San Francisco, I spent some years writing and performing with ensembles that remain important in the history of Bay Area arts, then did time tangling with the music biz in LA & NYC, followed by a decade in Europe, recording all the while, before coming "home" to NOLA. This is a partial musical record of that journey. ... more
